The myth of passion and motivation: Faith and focus

We are issuing another Newsletter, spreading worldwide Easyfresh unique business concept. On this particular day in the gym, there was a coach visiting who had worked with thousands of athletes.

I had just finished my workout when I asked him, “What’s the difference between the best athletes and everyone else. What do the really successful people do that most people don’t?”

He briefly mentioned the things that you might expect. Genetics. Luck. Talent.

But then he said something I wasn’t expecting.

“At some point,” he said, “it comes down to who can handle the boredom of training every day and doing the same lifts over and over and over again.”

That is exactly Easyfresh thinking about work ethic. We are constant and have big faith in our business goal : Global, neutral and dedicated reefer logistics.

Most of the time people talk about getting motivated and “amped up” to work on their goals. Whether it’s business or sports or art, you will commonly hear people say things like, “it all comes down to having enough passion.”

As a result, many people get depressed when they lose focus, because they think that successful people have some unstoppable passion and willpower that they seem to be missing. But that’s exactly the opposite of what this coach was saying.

"Expert knowledge" vs. wisdom in reefer trades

There is little more prestigious today than being able to claim expert status at something. The reason is obvious: Experts are responsible for many of our century’s greatest achievements, from the eradication of smallpox to the invention of the computer. Increasingly, we rely on specialists to perform even the routine tasks of daily life: To fix our cars, develop our vacation snapshots, do our taxes and …. to ship your perishables .

Increasingly, our industry seems to assume that “reefer shipping cargo experts” are in a better position than others like TRULY reefer logistics advisors or suppliers having a much broader scope and vision and applying common sense to know what’s best for the fresh cargo route, door-door transit times, quality and interests.

But often — in matters like choice of a “real reefer or fruit port” or a first class value adding coldstore operation, for example — it’s not just that we’re afraid to change traditional patterns, it is that we “follow the music” of a traditionally fragmented cold chain, for somekind of wrong mental peace of mind.

And now we are facing a time of change:  The winds in the reefer industry are blowing in different directions. Huge complexity adds to a number of uncertainties that those so called “local reefer experts”, will be unable to sort out, without the consistent support of “truly global and neutral reefer logistics suppliers”. Count with Easyfresh for that.

Not only in reefer trades, but generally, experts have contributed much of what makes modern life so rich and secure, and we owe them a great debt of gratitude. But we must not forget that expert knowledge, and wisdom, are two very different things.

Technology in reefer needs human capital to produce real growth

Human capital is a measure of the economic value of an employee's skill set. This measure builds on the basic production input of labor measure where all labor is thought to be equal. The concept of human capital recognizes that not all labor is equal and that the quality of employees can be improved by investing in them; the education, experience and abilities of employees have economic value for employers and for the economy as a whole.

Besides it, despite all the information technology advances in reefer techniques, track and trace, e-commerce etc the effect so far has been negligible as far as real or quality economical growth and margins is concerned.

The whole digital era, spanning more than four decades, is looking like a disappointment, even for our reefer industry.

New technologies have yielded great headlines but modest economic results. Why? ... The answer is not easy.

Technology, while important, must always work through the investment of human capital in order to generate economic growth.

Most modern theories that emphasize the importance of new ideas and new technologies give the impression that these ideas and technologies have a “life of their own.” Many experts hold that because of the limited amounts of capital and good labor, without technological progress, the opportunities for growth will eventually run out.

So regardless of how many ideas people have, what matters is whether these ideas can be implemented and have a positive result for our customers dealing with fresh and frozen cargo. What always limits the implementation of various new techniques is the availability of skilled people THINKING and this has to be funded.

Strategic alliances : Another step forward

So what is a strategic partner? A strategic partner is another business with whom you enter into an agreement that aims to help both of you achieve more success.

Below are several types of strategic partners that you might consider for your business.

Strategic Marketing Partners
Developing strategic marketing partners can help you grow your business at a very low cost. For example, if the partner is in a complementary business, you could refer clients between one another. Both partners would increase revenues with no additional advertising costs.

Strategic Financial Partners
Revenue is the life blood of any business but keeping a constant eye on the flow of money can be a full time job.  This is why financial partners are incredibly important.

Strategic Suppliers
Developing strategic partnerships with suppliers has a number of benefits.  Working closely with suppliers will ensure that everything is delivered properly and might even lead to special discounts and lower prices. Most importantly, strategic partnerships with suppliers could result in them creating new products tailored to your specific needs that give you competitive advantage.

Strategic Technology Partners
The modern world is heavily reliant on technology and no business can hope to succeed without strategic technology partners.  These can be the people who set up and fix office computers, who design and implement office networks, who create custom software to allow your business to run more efficiently, or even the people who design and run your website.

Russia Fifth-Largest Importer of Apples from China

Demand for Chinese fruit in Russia has witnessed considerable growth this year. According to customs statistics from Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia, Russia’s fruit imports across the Manchurian border increased by 46.2% to 124,000 tons in January-October 2016 in comparison to the same period last year.

Russia imports apples from China not only through Manzhouli, but also from other land and sea ports as well. Russia accounted for 9% of China’s overall apple export, behind traditional markets for China’s apples such as Thailand, the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh, respectively.

According to the USDA, China’s 2015-2016 domestic apple production increased by 2.1 million tons to 43 million tons, or fully 56% of global apple production. Due to this increased output, the average price for China’s apple exports fell slightly, causing them to be more competitively priced on the Russian market.

In addition to the recent competitive advantage in price, a number of other factors have contributed to the growth of China’s apple export to Russia this year.
One such factor is the improved transport connections between the two countries. In August 2016, a refrigerated railway service was launched with the aim of boosting mutual trade between Russia and China. The refrigerated container train links Dalian and Moscow, with a stop at Manzhouli for customs inspection and clearance. The whole journey takes roughly 12 days to complete, which is one-third the transit time currently required by sea shipments or railway freights via other routes.

Another aspect facilitating China’s apple exports to Russia is Russia’s current embargo on European apples, such as those from Poland. In the meantime, the import of Chinese apples is proving to be a logical and mutually beneficial strategy.

Sales of organic food

Demand for organic food is at its highest for more than a decade, according to -major retailers.

That’s good news for an industry that was hit hard by the economic downturn but now seems to be returning to rude health as more shoppers say organic food is worth paying the premium for.

Meanwhile, Tesco says that organic sales in its stores have risen by 15% in the past year.
Significantly, sales of organic produce appear to be rising across all sectors, not just fruit and vegetables. An increasing number of consumers are buying organic fish, dairy produce and grocery items, such as olive oil, pasta and cooking sauces.

“We are seeing that shoppers are increasingly looking to buy organic food but it needs to be affordable and consistently high quality all year round for it to be considered a viable option,” said a spokeswoman for Tesco. “The popularity of organic food began with fruit and vegetables, but we are now seeing customers exploring areas such as grocery, fish and dairy. So you can now use organic produce for the whole meal.”

“There is a clear opportunity for supermarkets to stock more organic, as our research showed people are having to shop around to find what they want,” said Clare McDermott, business development director at Soil Association Certification. “The discounters are upping their game and increasing their organic offer, as are other outlets such as Amazon Fresh. There is a huge and currently untapped potential to increase organic sales even further in supermarkets."

Some tips; Freezing and reheating food

Freezing and reheating food is a very common in our homes. Food cooked or stored in an incorrect manner may lead to spoilage, resulting in infections in the body. The moisture content, temperature and storage time all influence the safety of stored food. Wrong handling may lead to food borne infections.

Freezing the right way
Ideally all perishable food, milk, vegetables, meat and cooked food should be refrigerated as they are prone to spoilage. All cooked food not meant to be consumed immediately should be cooled to below 10⁰C, or kept warm at above 60⁰C to retard the growth of bacteria.

If you are storing cooked food do so within 2 hours of cooking. Cooling it faster also helps, divide the food into smaller portions so that it cools fast and can be frozen sooner to avoid contamination
. Maintain the moisture content of food by wrapping them in air tight containers or foils. This also prevents the odour of different foods from mixing while keeping the bacteria out. Frozen food can be kept for up to almost 2-3 months, but check the colour, odour and taste of the food to see if it is edible.

Reheating your food
You can reheat frozen food without thawing it. It does no harm. You can reheat foods directly in a saucepan or in the microwave.
For reheating foods safely USDA lists the following methods:

- Reheat soups and gravies by bringing them to a rolling boil.
-  While using a microwave cover the food and rotate it so that it heats evenly.
-  Add some fluid while heating, the steam produced will kill all the bacteria and ensure uniform heating.
- Check the temperature of the food in different portions, use a food thermometer if required.
- Thick gravies, meats, will take a longer time to heat as compared to vegetables.
- Thaw and reheat smaller portions as required rather than the whole dish.

Several studies have shown that most of the nutrients remain unchanged in frozen food if done properly, losses are majorly of water soluble vitamins especially Vitamin C . So, while ideally we should consume fresh food, both cooked and uncooked, freezing and reheating safely are an option.
